Electrical Installation Condition Report

The purpose of a Report is to confirm, so far as reasonably practicable, whether or not the electrical installation is in a satisfactory condition for continued service. The Report should identify any damage, deterioration, defects and/or conditions which may give rise to danger. Its uses include -

Buying / selling a property
Landlord certificates
Insurance company requirements
Change of use
Change of ownership

Electrical Certificate

The Electrical Installation Certificate is to be used only for the initial certification of a new installation or for an addition or alteration to an existing installation where new circuits have been introduced, or the replacement of a consumer unit / distribution board.

Minor Works

The Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate is intended to be used for additions and alterations to an installation that do not extend to the provision of a new circuit. Examples include the addition of socket-outlets or lighting points to an existing circuit, the relocation of a light switch etc. A Minor Works Certificate may also be used for the replacement of equipment such as accessories or luminaires, but not for the replacement of distribution boards or similar items.

Part P

Part P forms part of the Building Regulations. In short, electrical installations must be safe!

Part P of the Building Regulations applies to fixed electrical installations in dwellings (including gardens and shared amenities in blocks of flats, and any building that shares its electricity supply with a dwelling).
